Well, Kodanja 2004 run it's course. As usual it was a phyically difficult and emotionally trying week. I am extremely proud of all the candidates that participated in this years kodanja. Additionally, I am most appreciative of all those kodanja members who attended and supported our candidates. Most notably: Sa Bom Nim Jack Bennett; Sa Bom Nim Sean Steefel; Sa Bom Nim Barbi Goldenberg; Sa Bom Nim Don Seibert. The performance at today's (Sunday, January 25, 2004), testing was inspirational. Even though the candidates were exhausted and many candidates were sporting various injuries they dug down deep and put together an amazing performance. I was able to observe what in the beginning was 14 individuals in the span of 4 and half days transform and meld together into a strong and cohesive unit. Sitting on the testing board, in addition to myself was: Soke John Larlee, 10th dan Miso BekuRyu Jui-jutsu; Kyoshi Micheal Cunningham, 8th dan, Shotokan Karate; Sa Bom Nim Richard Kopf, 6th dan, Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan; Sa Bom Nim Howard Dugan, 6th dan, Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan; Sa Bom Nim Joseph DeVita, Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan. Each member of the judging panel expressed to me their satisfaction with the effort and performance put forth by this years Kodanja candidates. Following the testing and photo session we all enjoyed one final meal together cooked by Mrs. Marisol Rodrigues-Acosta. It was scrumptiously delicious and our deepest appreciation goes out to Marisol who was up at 6:00 this morning to cook the meal... Thanks to all those who supported this years kodanjan candidates with food, gatorade, fruit and power bars...your generosity was amazing... Abdelaziz you are a fantastic cook...Effy your chicken was unforgettable... I didn't give the candidates much time to eat but when they did they ate like kings and queens... After a few days as each candidate begins to process this experience and the events of the past week become part of their memories, I know that this event will always be a special memory indeed. For me I will always treasure the memories that I recieved and I will always be grateful to each candidate for their effort and contribution during Kodanja 2004. I have received more information regarding the trip to Hagen, Germany for the European Tang Soo Do Championships to be held May 29 & 30, 2004. The team event will be 4 men and 1 women. Teams can be comprised of Gups, Dans or Masters. We will be trying to put together two teams for the the team event... Each team will be comprised of dans and masters only. Gups will be allowed to compete in Germany in the gup individual events. Competition will be in Forms, Sparring, Weapons and Team Sparring. I will be holding Sunday afternoon sparring classes to both prepare and pick teams for Germany. Even though there will be 10 official team members any other person who wishes to participate in this championship please contact me. If you live in the northeast by all means attend the Sunday sparring classes. If you are an instructor residing in another area and you have a student that you feel should participate in the team sparring event please contact me directly... I have a list of 3 star and 4 star hotels that our travel agent will get prices. Kyo Sa Ralf Ubelander, the sponsor of this event has also informed me that there is a hostel hotel that is only 25 Euros per night and food is included. He also told me that there is space for 24 people available in one of the castles in the area. Finally, Kyo Sa Uberlander has provided me with quite a list of attractions for those that want to do some site seeing. I will be asking our travel agent to put together a travel package that will include airfare, passes to and from the airport and hotel. This package will include the 2 days of the tournament and 4 or 5 additional days for site seeing. If there is anyone who would like to break away from the group itinerary please contact me directly... I am looking forward to great trip and experience in Germany...Tang Soo! Estimada Familia Mi Guk Kwan, muy feliz de comentar nuestros resultados, que hemos tenido a la fecha incluyendo el fin de semana, puesto que como las actividades han sido diversas, procedo ya mas tranquilo a comentar. Primero, el campeonato de Kung Fu Internacional 2003, ha quedado con muy buenos resultados dado a que tuvimos que ajustarnos a las reglas muy ditintas a las nuestras o acostumbradas. Tenemos a una Campeona de Segundo lugar Kyosa Cecilia Chavez, en categoría armas y con felicitaciones de su muy protocolar presentación. Como también saludar al equipo en competencias formas que obtuvieron el tercer lugar, entregada por Mestre Paulo Da Silva, muy emotivo el momento,una gran distincion tecnica, caracter y realmente muchas personas compartieron fotografias, invitaciones a diversos campeonatos y actividades. FELICITACIONES AL TEAM BRASIL 2003. Por lo pronto hoy muy temprano hemos acudido al barrio Liberdade que es de la colonia Oriental, pudiendo tener una sesión de fotos de muy buenos recuerdos las que veran pronto en nuestro sitio web. Dentro de esta gira de estudios, podemos decir Misión Cumplida, por todo lo que Marcelo, Cecilia, Daniela, Esteban y Rolando han podido valorar y validar la experiencias obtenidas para un mejor y mayor futuro Profesional en nuestro Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan. He recepcionado muchas felicitaciones por variados exponentes y Maestros, en conjunto por lo logrado, dado a que es dificil, en este tipo de eventos. Hi, I’m just back from accompanying Grand Master Charles Ferraro in the inaugural visit of KJN to Mi Guk Kwan Mexico. There were four of us in Mexico: KJN Ferraro, SBN Richard Kopf SBN Jeff Talavera and Myself. The trip was excellent. We met many of the students and instructors of MGK Mexico and they were full of the spirit of the MGK. Classes were taught by KJN, SBN Kopf and SBN Talavera, so it was like a very intensive clinic for two days. I was privileged to train and get to know our brothers and sisters in Mexico. I want to thank KJN for having these trips and allowing me to accompany him. I also want to thank SBN Frias head of MGK Mexico for his hospitality and obvious preparation. And of course I would like to thank all the students and instructors who gave of their energy in class and out of class during the four days we were there. I look forward to seeing members of MGK Mexico at MGK events in the future and the next trip I am able to make to Mexico. Tang Soo! Helen

A Special thanks to Mas Guro Greg Alland who outran Hurricane Isabel, leaving Virginia Beach and driving to West Haven to teach a great Kali clinic. We had 18 people in attendance. We trained for approximately 3 and 1/2 hours covering single baston, double baston and knife drills. Greg was in good form and everyone had a great time.
